About the Author/Company

This battery driven, solar and wind turbine charged company, Cruising Companion Publications, is the brainchild of Captain Marti Brown; a female solo sailor that has been cruising the Florida Coast and the Bahamas since 1990.

She is a HAM radio operator, a reporting station for the Hurricane Watch Net, an active member of the Waterway Radio and Cruising Club, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Seven Seas Cruising Association. Marti is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a licensed 100 ton Master USCG Captain, and currently resides in Boot Key Harbor, Marathon, in the Florida Keys on her 31' sailboat, The Other Woman.

If you're cruising around Boot Key Harbor, Marathon in the Florida Keys from October through April, give a call on the VHF. If you're a HAM radio operator, you can usually find me on the Waterway Radio and Cruiser's Club Net on 7268 LSB from 0745-0830 local time. My call sign is KF4TRG. Fair waves-both radio and ocean! Click on the thumbnails to view from left to right; my boat, The Other Woman at anchor in Baker's Bay, Great Guana Cay, Abaco, Leslie & Bill's view from their house on Manjack Cay, Abaco, Cumulonimbus Mama cloud (supposed to be rare but I see them frequently), Water Spout off Manjack Cay in the Sea of Abaco, Sunrise in Georgetown, Exumas March 2004, a sunset in the Abacos during the summer of 2002, a Water Spout off Green Turtle White Sound, Abacos ,the Boot Key Harbor Mooring Field, two Manatees hugging and Capt. Marti.
